Arts Festival Kicks Off In Bass Coast

The Creative Gippsland Arts Festival in Bass Coast has been officially launched with an event held on Thursday, 7 May.

Artists and art lovers alike gathered at Wonthaggi Art Space to celebrate the beginning of the month-long festival.

“With the theme of this year’s festival being ‘swap’, the exhibition Tree Change to Sea Change, which features artworks from Arc Yinnar artists, was a feature of the launch,” Bass Coast Shire Council Mayor, Cr Kimberley Brown said.

“Artworks by local artists from Wonthaggi Art Space will feature in an exhibition at Arc Yinnar titled Sea Change to Tree Change.

Cr Brown launched the program of Bass Coast events and congratulated all involved in the “fantastic arts feast”.

“The Creative Gippsland Arts Festival plays a large role in achieving Council’s arts and cultural vision of a culturally vital community that links people through shared activities, and creating stronger communites and connections to the place for residents and visitors,” Cr Brown said.

“The ‘swap’ theme is also a great opportunity for our community to see exhibitions and artworks from artists outside our region, without having to travel far from home.”

Jan Tulloch from Arc Yinnar and Mary Mustears representing Art Space Wonthaggi also spoke at the event, discussing what a great opportunity it was to work with one another.
