Cape Paterson Scheme Abandoned

Bass Coast Shire Council cannot proceed with the Cape Paterson Special Charge Scheme after the majority of property owners objected to the scheme.

Council received 301 objections, or around 64 per cent, out of the 470 properties covered by the scheme.

Council will now make a formal decision to discontinue the scheme process at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 21 May – earlier than the July meeting which was originally proposed.

Property owners included within the proposed scheme, as well as people not included within the scheme, but provided a submission, have been notified in writing of the result of the submission process.

They’ve also been notified of the level of objection and that Council cannot proceed any further with the project.

“This is democracy at work. Residents had the opportunity to consider and vote on the matter,” Mayor, Cr Neil Rankine, said.

“The level of objection is a clear indication that the majority of people of Cape Paterson are content with the level of infrastructure that currently exists.”
