Coghlan and Smiths Beach Roads work finished

Recent road works for Coghlan Road and Smiths Beach Road on Phillip Island are now complete.

The work was part of Bass Coast Shire Co uncil’s 2012/13 Capital Works program.  Almost 1.7 km of Coghlan Road (between Settlement Road and Phillip Island Road) and a 500 metre section of Smiths Beach Road from the Back Beach Road intersection has been strengthen and sealed.

Infrastructure Director, Felicity Sist, said these sections are part of important road networks for businesses and residents.

“Coghlan Road is used by lots of Phillip Island residents and businesses,” said Ms Sist.

“We realise these road closures and detours have had an impact on most road users and nearby residents and would thank everyone for their patience during these works.

"The section of Smiths Beach Road was completed on 15 March. The road improvements included crushed rock overlay, road sealing and intersection line-marking,” continued Ms Sist.

“We are delighted that we had good weather and were able to deliver these projects on time and within budget.”

Council appointed Sure Constructions (Vic) Pty Ltd to complete the road renewal works.

The Coghlan Road project cost $358,000. Council contributed $185,000 and the Victorian State Government’s Country Roads and Bridges Initiative funded the remaining $173,000.

The Smiths Beach Road project cost $97,000, funded by developer contributions.
