Comments Needed for DAMAC

Bass Coast Shire Council is asking the community to comment on the draft Terms of Reference for the Domestic Animal Management Advisory Committee (DAMAC).

Council endorsed the draft Terms of Reference at Wednesday night’s meeting, and agreed to circulate the document for public comment.

This decision followed a statement made by the Mayor, Cr Neil Rankine, during Community Question Time at Council’s Ordinary Meeting on 19 February 2014.

“Council has a responsibility to ensure all views are considered, so we will develop an inclusive engagement plan,” Cr Rankine said.

“As part of this, the Domestic Animal Management Advisory Committee (known as DAMAC) will be reconvened, with revised Terms of Reference, to assist with future considerations.”

The Domestic Animal Management Plan 2012-16 was adopted in 2012.

One of its key actions was to establish a Domestic Animal Management Advisory Committee with the purpose of encouraging an holistic approach to animal management across the municipality.

DAMAC will draw its members from community and other groups, representing a spread of geographic and skills based knowledge, and also members of Bass Coast Shire Council.

The draft Terms of Reference is now available on Council’s website (www.basscoast.vic.gov.au/damac) for comment until Monday, 5 May, 2014.

Comments may be sent in writing to Bass Coast Shire Council, 76 McBride Avenue, Wonthaggi, 3995, or by email to basscoast@basscoast.vic.gov.au with the subject line DAMAC draft Terms of Reference.

All comments will be collected and presented as a redraft for adoption by Council in May.

Council will then call for Expressions of Interest for the new Committee via Council’s website, which will be communicated to potential candidates through the local media.
