Cowes To Become Destination Town
The plans to transform Cowes into a destination town have been approved, with the Cowes Activity Centre Plan adopted by Council at tonight’s meeting.
Developed with the help of significant community consultation and engagement, the Plan received an overwhelming response from the local community according to Thompson Ward Councillor, Andrew Phillips, said.
“This Plan was initiated by the community and it’s been great to see them working with Council and really embracing the Plan as their own,” Cr Phillips said.
“Overall, the response has been positive and there has been a high level of support for the objectives of the Plan.”
According to feedback from the community, the most popular initiatives in the Plan were:
- Reinvigorating the character of Cowes (81% in support)
- Connecting the two ends of town (75% in support)
- Fixing the foreshore (70% in support)
- Recreating streets for people (62% in support)
- Making good development easy to deliver (62% in support)
“I’d like to thank the community for their high level of interest in providing ideas for the future of Cowes,” Cr Phillips said.
“The Cowes Activity Centre Plan provides the blue print for Cowes, and Council will now work to deliver the projects identified in the Plan, with some funds set aside in the 2015/16 Budget.”
