Bass Coast Shire Council elected Cr Kimberley Brown as its new Mayor at a Statutory Meeting this afternoon.

Nominated by outgoing Mayor, Cr Neil Rankine, Cr Brown was the only nomination for the position.

Cr Brown said the role of Mayor was an incredible opportunity and one she wouldn’t take lightly.

“I’d like to acknowledge Cr Rankine for his hard work over the past 12 months,” Cr Brown said.

“I will represent the Shire with poise and dignity and, when required, with forceful presence where the Shire will benefit.”

Cr Jordan Crugnale was elected Deputy Mayor and was also the only nomination for the position.

Cr Rankine said it had been a fascinating journey being Mayor.

“I knew it would be a lot of work, but didn’t know just how much work it would be,” Cr Rankine said.

“It’s quite a responsibility to engage with the community, to try and understand the community, and to work with the community and my fellow councillors for the best outcome for Bass Coast Shire.

“I feel that’s what I’ve done in my year as Mayor.”

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor will serve in their positions for 12 months.
