Construction of the new Bass Valley Children’s Centre is nearing completion and work is now gearing up for the facility to commence operation in early 2018.

Bass Coast Shire Council Mayor, Cr Pamela Rothfield, explained that the Children’s Centre will bring significant benefits for the Waterline areas of Bass Coast.

“First and foremost the facility will provide integrated education outcomes to complement the Bass Valley Primary School,” Cr Rothfield said.

“But more than that, the Children’s Centre will provide enhanced community services, local employment and training opportunities, and give families the flexibility to return to work”

The Children’s Centre has been made possible thanks to the commitment and energy of the Bass Valley community, who have rallied and worked tirelessly to provide support for the much needed Children’s Centre.

Significant fundraising efforts were acknowledged at the Bass Valley Children’s Centre Inc. social event ‘Cent Night’ held on Grand Final Eve.

Over 120 people were in attendance to celebrate the handover of a $70,000 cheque to Bass Coast Shire Council to support the construction of the Children’s Centre. Bass Valley Children’s Centre Inc. spokesperson, Mrs Amber Rees, said that the fundraising efforts will not stop here.

“We are continuing to work hard as a committee and a community to move the total money raised for the facility to $100,000,” Mrs Rees said.

All money raised will be going directly to the Children’s Centre.

Expressions of Interest for 2018 places show a high demand for early years services ranging from three and four year old kinder, to long day care and before/after school care.

The intent of this facility is to deliver quality, integrated and affordable early years education services for the Waterline community.

Council is currently securing the management of the Children’s Centre and is in advanced discussions with non-profit organisations who have solid experience in the community based early years education sector.

Works at the site will continue with the existing JLM Pre-school portables expected to be removed at the end of term four, and the construction of dedicated turning lanes and landscaping works completed in time for the start of the 2018 school year.

Enrolments for the Children’s Centre can be made to Bass Coast Shire Council from Monday, 9 October. Families who have already lodged expressions of interest will be contacted to confirm and complete their enrolments after this date.

For more information or to make an enrolment, please contact Council on 1300 BCAOST (226 278) or 0356 71 2211.
