Fire Ready Victoria Meetings Closer To Home

Knowing what to do and where to go on a hot, dry, windy day is your best protection against a bushfire.

Council’s Acting General Manager Healthy Communities, Jamie Sutherland, said CFA Fire Ready Victoria meetings were a great source of information for residents and ratepayers.

“These sessions are free and are an opportunity for property owners to learn more about personal safety, how to survive a bushfire, how to prepare your plan and what other resources are available,” Mr Sutherland said

“This year, the CFA is also holding a joint Bass Coast and South Gippsland Fire Ready Victoria meeting in Bayswater, as both councils have a significant number of ratepayers who live in Melbourne.

The session will be held at the Bayswater Cricket Club, Marie Wallace Park (entry via Bayswater Road), in Bayswater on Wednesday, 12 November 2014 from 7.30pm until 9.00pm.

“In particular, we are keen for those who live in towns with a high bushfire risk to receive this valuable and potentially life saving, information.

“Both councils have sent invitations in the mail directly to these ratepayers.”

Other Fire Ready Victoria meetings will be held in Bass Coast:

  • Silverleaves – Silverleaves General Store – Saturday, 1 November 2014 at 10.00am
  • Grantville – Grantville Community Hall – Thursday, 8 January 2015 at 7.30pm
  • Cape Paterson – Outside Cape Tavern – Saturday, 3 January 2015 at 9.00am

The Fire Ready Victoria meetings are identified in both Bass Coast and South Gippsland Councils’ Municipal Fire Management Plans as a key way to raise awareness of the need for everyone to have a Bushfire Survival Plan – whether they are residents, holiday makers or day visitors.
