Friends needed for Smiths Beach Drainage Reserve

Bass Coast Shire Council is inviting community members to join the Smiths Beach Drainage Reserve Friends Group, with a meeting to establish the Group being held on Friday, 15 January.

Interested community members are asked to gather at 2.00pm at the top of the ramp to Smiths Beach in the carpark area where discussions to form the Group can begin.

The group will walk down the ramp and along the beach to the Reserve, and information will be provided about the extent of the reserve and the integrated management with the native vegetation offset site.

The new Friends Group will help Council to manage the Reserve and be called upon to help set the annual works program.

Works may include on-ground conservation works and minor infrastructure works, in the one hectare area of the Reserve that has not been established as the Native Vegetation Offset reserve under the state government scheme.

A group could undertake activities such as tree planting, weeding, and seed collecting.

The group will determine its own meeting and working bee schedule as required.

For more information, please contact Council’s Environment Team on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) or (03) 5671 2211.
