Get Active For Walktober!
With its stunning coastlines and magical views, Bass Coast is the perfect place to get outside and be active.
With a number of Heart Foundation walking groups around the region, Bass Coast Shire Council is excited that October has been renamed Walktober - Australia's walking month!
A national initiative managed by Physical Activity Australia Incorporated, Council is getting involved in Walktober and is asking community members to get walking too.
A special Walktober event open to all will be held on Tuesday, 29 October. People are invited to meet at the State Coal Mine Visitors Centre at 9.30am for a 9.45am start. After a 30 minute walk, a free morning tea and talk by a local historian will be held. Participants will be free to wander around the above ground attractions at the State Coal Mine or view two films that will be showing on the day.
Practice Manager of Wonthaggi Medical Group, Gayle Bloch, said she hopes the event will encourage community members to engage in regular walking and sign up to one of the many Heart Foundation walking groups in Bass Coast.
“This event is a great opportunity to showcase the walking group from the Wonthaggi Medical Group and to encourage people to become more active and come and join our walking group,” Ms Bloch said.
“Not only are the groups a great opportunity to improve your fitness by exercising regularly, but a chance to meet new friends and socialise with like-minded people.”
