Golden Cypress To Be Removed

A Golden Cypress tree in Thompson Avenue, Cowes, will be removed after it was hit by a truck in July this year.

Bass Coast Shire Council met with the Friends of the Golden Cypress Association on 29 August to discuss the damage.

“At this meeting, Council presented two arborist reports to the Association outlining the damage of the tree,” Acting Infrastructure Director, Jamie Sutherland, said.

“The reports recommended removing the tree; however stated removal wasn’t necessary immediately.

“The Association agreed we should begin the process of removing the tree.”

Mr Sutherland said both Council and the Association agreed to remove the tree in February 2015, with a replacement to be planted in the following April.

“The damaged tree will be replaced with an established Golden Cypress tree Council currently has growing at the Cowes Depot,” Mr Sutherland said.

“Council and the Association worked well together to come to a quick agreement, and they are happy with the process Council have taken.

The tree will be removed from 96-100 Thompson Avenue.
