Bass Coast Shire Council recently held an information session for local youth service providers to set up a local support network for a Youth in Search program.

Youth in Search engages young people aged 14 – 20 years in a series of peer-facilitated weekend camps and ongoing mentoring sessions with supportive adults from their community.

The program works with young people who are experiencing challenges and disadvantage and who want to build positive relationships in their community.

Bass Coast Shire Council Mayor, Cr Pamela Rothfield, explained that Youth in Search aims to help young people reach their full potential and is a positive program for Bass Coast.

“There has been a strong drive from local service providers to support young people to participate in the program,” Cr Rothfield said.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for people in our community who feel passionate about connecting with youth and helping them to realise their potential, to get on board as a mentor.”

A meeting with youth service providers will be held on Tuesday 10 July to further discuss the viability of supporting a Youth in Search network in Bass Coast. Service providers can contact Councils’ Youth Planning and Policy Officer, Geraldine Archibald, for more information at Geraldine.archibald@basscoast.vic.gov.au.

Community members interested in supporting young people participating in Youth in Search are invited to contact Andrea Mcall-Evans at Skills Plus by emailing andrea.evansmccall@skillsplus.com.au.
