International Women's Day celebrated in style

It was a full house at Silverwater Restaurant on Tuesday, 12 March at the Bass Coast Shire Council International Women’s Day luncheon.

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Clare Le Serve and Cr Kimberley Brown hosted the event, which featured local business woman and founder of the Koonwarra Village School, Fiona McKenzie, as the guest speaker.

Cr Le Serve said Fiona’s speech was inspiring and gave a real insight into the challenges she faced in business.

“Fiona showed how through her passion and determination she was able to achieve her goals.  Her story and advice was relevant to all women and I know those who attended were very impressed by her presentation,” said Cr Le Serve.

“As well as an opportunity to reflect on the global achievements of women and be motivated by an inspiring local woman, the lunch was a chance to catch up and enjoy each other’s company.”

In line with Fiona’s commitment to the environment, each guest also received an organic “Grow in the Bag” herb pack and an indigenous native plant from Barb Martin Community Bush Bank.

This is the sixth year Council has hosted an International Women’s Day luncheon.  The eclectic array of guests included local business owners, a former Mayor from South Gippsland Shire Council and sponsors from the Mayoral Charity Ball.  Local businesses generously supported the event and donated door prizes, which included hair and beauty packs, flower arrangements, accommodation, cleaning services, massage therapy and wine packages.

“I want to personally thank all our sponsors, especially Tropical Zone Flowers in Cowes and Beachside Hair & Beauty in San Remo, who have supported all our International Women’s Day lunches.

“Thanks also Silverwater Resort, Mrs Mop-It Cleaning Service, Purple Hen Winery and Island Healing.”
