Come and Play - All of May is a dynamic, vibrant month that celebrates culture and creativity in Gippsland and there are plenty of exciting and engaging events planned across Bass Coast for the Month of May.

The program is run in partnership between Bass Coast Shire Council and Creative Gippsland. The underlying thread for the whole event is one of inclusivity and engagement - engaging the wider community in the vibrant Bass Coast arts scene

Activities include the artist-in-residence program, a celebratory opening event, as well as further community and school collaborations, events and activities.

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Pamela Rothfield, explained that this year will see a focus on celebrating the diversity of Bass Coast; the Indigenous heritage of Bass Coast; and Phillip Island’s 150th celebration.

“Come and Play 2018 will encourage everyone to immerse themselves in the arts, by seeing, doing and participating,” Cr Rothfield said.

“The majority of events are free or low cost, enabling the whole community to enjoy the Come and Play program.”

The program will be packed with highlights including:

· Opening event at Artspace Wonthaggi on Saturday, 5 May which will be a free event and include performances, exhibitions and activities

· Cultural Walk with Bunurong Traditional Owner Adam Magennis at Powlett River on Saturday, 5 May

· Newhaven Primary School's Poetry Slam at Turn the Page bookstore in Cowes on Saturday, 12 May

· Studio bus tour visiting artist studios around Bass Coast on Sunday, 13 May

· Dance 150, a dance class for 150 people in Cowes, run by Karleeanne Chau on Sunday, 27 May

In addition to all of these events, there will be plenty of workshops, exhibitions and other special events. The full program is available at creativegippsland.com.au and printed programs will be distributed throughout Bass Coast, in locations such as libraries and Visitor Information Centres.
