Melbourne Water Grant To Support Drainage Strategy

Bass Coast Shire Council will prepare a drainage strategy for the Sunset Strip and Smiths Beach areas after receiving a $60,000 grant from Melbourne Water.

This project has been assisted by the Victorian Government through the Melbourne Water Corporation as part of the Living Rivers Stormwater Program.

McHaffie Ward Councillor, Kimberley Brown, said there is a history of drainage problems in both Sunset Strip and Smiths Beach.

“These issues affect the liveability of these areas,” Cr Brown said.

“The outcomes from the drainage strategy will be used to formulate ongoing drainage priorities in these areas.

“These drainage priorities could include, drainage upgrades, maintenance regimes, stormwater quality initiatives and enhancements to the existing waterway and retardation basin.”

It is anticipated the project to develop the strategy will commence in May with a final report to be presented to Council in July.

“Council Officers have already met with some property owners in Sunset Strip to find out about existing drainage issues in the area,” Cr Brown said.

“This information, together with input from Council’s Maintenance Team, will be considered as part of investigations for the drainage strategy.”

Further information can be obtained from Council’s Infrastructure Projects Team on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) or on Council’s website.
