Bass Coast Shire Council unanimously elected Cr Pamela Rothfield as its new Mayor and Cr Brett Tessari as Deputy Mayor at a Special Meeting held on Wednesday evening.

Cr Rothfield and Cr Tessari will retain their positions for 12 months.

Cr Rothfield said she was “absolutely chuffed” to be chosen as the first Mayor of the newly elected Council.

“I’m very excited and looking forward to the challenge,” Cr Rothfield said.

“We’ve got a great team of Councillors with a great depth of knowledge, and I’m looking forward to what we can achieve over the next four years.”

Cr Tessari said he was excited to serve the community in the role of Deputy Mayor for the coming year.

“I’m really looking forward to working with Cr Rothfield. She’s the breath of fresh air that our community’s been looking for,” Cr Tessari said.

“On a personal note, I’m very proud to hold the position of Deputy Mayor. I can’t wait to get down to business and represent the community.”

The new Council’s first Ordinary Meeting will be held at 5.00pm next Wednesday, 23 November in the Council Chamber at the Civic Centre in Wonthaggi.

The Meeting is open to the public and Council encourages community members to attend.
