Works have recently been completed to renew the beach access steps to First Surf Beach at Cape Paterson. These works form part of Bass Coast Shire Council’s Building and Open Space Renewal Program.

The total cost of construction was $159,000, with $56,000 contributed by a Coastal Public Access and Risk Grant through the Victorian State Government Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.

Council contributed the remaining $103,000 and funded the development of construction plans, background investigations and approvals.

Bass Coast Deputy Mayor and Bunurong ward Councillor, Cr Brett Tessari, explained that the completion of the stairs is fantastic, and perfectly timed.

“With the recent announcement of an additional $1 million funding for the surf lifesaving club here, these steps will soon have a brand new club house to match.”

“It’s great to see Cape Paterson getting some new infrastructure and facilities, this is a very busy spot in summer time and enjoyed by locals all year round.”
