Newhaven recreation under lights

Construction of four light poles and installation of lighting fixtures at the Newhaven Recreation Reserve is set to commence.

Bass Coast Shire Council has appointed All Sports Lighting to design, supply and construct the lights. Works are anticipated to begin in late May to early June, subject to weather and contractor availability.

This $230,000 project is being funded by Sport and Recreation Victoria, as part of the Community Sports Infrastructure fund ($100,000), Bass Coast Shire Council ($65,000) and Phillip Island Soccer Club ($65,000).

Bass Coast Shire Council Mayor, Cr Pamela Rothfield, explained that the project will provide field lighting for the two soccer pitches at the Newhaven Recreation Reserve which is frequently used by the Phillip Island Soccer Club.

“It’s wonderful to see another example of much needed sporting infrastructure coming to fruition thanks to combined contributions from State Government, Council and a local club,” Cr Rothfield said.

“I applaud Phillip Island Soccer Club for their significant contribution of $65,000. These funds will assist in provide a safe training venue which the whole community will benefit from for many years.”

The four light poles will be 28 metres high with 100 lux lighting fixtures.

Construction is due for completion by 30 June.

Council advises that as these works are being carried out in a public recreation reserve, there may be some inconvenience to the public and sporting groups.
