Pool Closed For Maintenance

The Bass Coast Aquatic and Leisure Centre pool in Wonthaggi will be closed for the first week of the upcoming school holidays.

The closure, which effects access to the pool and all change areas, is for essential maintenance upgrades including extensive flooring and painting works. There will be no admission to the pool and change areas during this works period.

The planned closure is expected to be completed between Monday, 29 June and Sunday, 5 July.

Importantly, all other services during this time including group fitness, gymnasium access and kiosk will not be affected.

According to Bass Coast Shire Council’s General Manager of Healthy Communities, David Elder, these works are essential to provide safety improvements to the wet areas that surround the swimming pool.

“The new flooring and freshening of pool areas will be a significant improvement to the facility,” Mr Elder said.

Referring to Council’s commitment toward a longterm Aquatics Strategy, Mr Elder confirmed this work was part of identifying immediate needs for this facility and not related to any future planning for a new aquatic facility.

“While Council works toward a long term approach to leisure facilities, the need to maintain and upgrade our current facilities is essential.”

Bass Coast YMCA Manager, Rebecca Wilson, is pleased to see the works commence during what is traditionally a quiet time for the pool.

“The first week of the school holidays was a preferred time to undertake these works as it will minimise the disruption of service to the community,” Ms Wilson said.

Aquatic members and swimming lesson members will have access to South Gippsland SPLASH for this week of closure.

The pool will be re-opened on Monday, 6 July.
