Rabbit Baiting on Bass Coast Foreshores

Bass Coast Shire Council will be undertaking rabbit pest control in Council managed Foreshore Reserves. The baiting program aims to minimise the impacts of rabbits on the indigenous vegetation in these conservation reserves, as well as reducing the effect on the nearby properties.

A licenced contractor will be baiting foreshore reserve sites from mid April 2018. The targeted areas include Ventnor, Red Rocks, Cowes, Rhyll, Newhaven, Cape Woolamai and Kilcunda foreshores. Surveys have been undertaken in these areas to place baits in strategic areas. Signage will be displayed on all access tracks and areas which will be affected.

Dog owners should follow Council regulations regarding dogs being on leads. This will assist to prevent dogs accessing baited areas. The baiting areas will use exclusion cages to prevent access by non target animals.
