Small Businesses Backbone Of Bass Coast
Bass Coast residents are once again encouraged to shop locally and celebrate Support Small Business Day on Saturday, 4 October.
Support Small Business Day is a State Government initiative that celebrates the big difference that small businesses make to local communities.
Bass Coast Shire Council has been working with business operators to promote the event and is encouraging the community to be part of the day that shows what big differences small businesses make to local communities.
“It’s a day dedicated to encouraging Victorians to explore their local community and spend in-store at local small businesses with a shop front, rather than online or at large shopping centres outside of Bass Coast,” Mayor, Cr Neil Rankine said.
“By buying local from small business operators, consumers strengthen the local economy and increase local competition.
“This drives product diversity and innovation and, in turn, helps to create jobs and build stronger neighbourhoods”
Cr Rankine said business owners and shoppers alike can get involved in Support Small Business Day.
“Participating in Support Small Business Day gives our local, small businesses an opportunity to reach new customers, improve skills in marketing and build a social media presence,” Cr Rankine said.
“Small businesses, whether they be retail stores, trades or other services, are vital to our region.
“Our locally owned businesses not only provide employment opportunities for our community, but sponsor local clubs, organisations and events that often can’t continue without this support.”
To become involved in Support Small Business Day, small businesses will need to register online at www.supportsmallbusinessday.vic.gov.au.
When registering, businesses will be able to create their own profile that consumers will be able to access when searching for participating businesses to visit on the day.Once registered, small businesses will receive a complimentary Business Support Pack that will include promotional material for in-store display and information on how they can optimise their participation and what supportive activities will be surrounding the initiative.Shoppers will also have the chance to win prepaid #supportsmall gift cards to spend in participating businesses on Support Small Business Day, thanks to the State Government and principal partner, Bendigo Bank.
The #supportsmall gift cards offer Victorians another great reason to shop in a small business on 4 October. They will be awarded during the month of September through a range of competitions on the Support Small Business Day social media channels and website. The #supportsmall gift cards can only be spent in small businesses that officially register on the Support Small Business Day website, and accept EFTPOS transactions.
