Smiths Beach Road Closes For Works

Improvements to a section of Smiths Beach Road from 5 -15 March will mean some traffic disruption in the area.  Smiths Beach Road will be fully closed between Back Beach Road and Phillip Island Road between 9.00am and 2.30pm for the 10 days.

Although this entire section of the road will be closed, the work is concentrated on a 500m section from the Back Beach Road intersection.

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Infrastructure Director, Felicity Sist, said the work included crushed road overlay, road sealing and intersection line marking.

“Work will start on Tuesday, 5 March and we hope to have it completed by Friday 15 March, depending on weather,” said Ms Sist.

For the safety of motorists and the workers on the site, there will be road closures and detours in place.

“We have notified the local residents directly, but we want to make sure other community members are aware of the changed conditions.”

Ms Sist called on all drivers to be patient, slow down and follow the directions of staff working on the site.

“Unfortunately, traffic will be disrupted. There will be traffic lights or controllers on site and the contractors will assist with local property access at all times.  However, there may be some delays depending on the nature of the works.”

The work on this section of Smiths Beach Road is part of the Capital Works program for 2012/13.  Council has appointed Sure Constructions (Vic) Pty Ltd to complete the roadworks.  The project cost is $97,000 funded by developer contributions.
