The pool at the Bass Coast Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Wonthaggi will be closed from Thursday, 20 to Saturday, 22 August.

The closure, which affects all access to both the lap and play pools, is to allow for the replacement of the existing heating boilers that have been in place for 27 years.

The planned closure is expected to be completed between Thursday, 20 and Saturday, 22 August.

During this time, all swimming lessons, group bookings and casual use will be unavailable.

The works will see the original distributor of the current boilers 27 years ago, Parsons Boilers, back at the facility supplying a better system using today’s technology.

A trusted service trade of the YMCA in Thermelec will coordinate the install of the system and ensure it is running appropriately prior to a reopening.

Bass Coast YMCA Manager, Rebecca Wilson, is pleased to see these essential works taking place.

“Management at the Centre first noticed problems with the boilers’ heating capacity a little while back and since that time have worked with Bass Coast Shire Council to rectify the issue with the installation of a new system,” Ms Wilson said.

“These works, coupled with the extensive upgrade to our pool deck and wet areas, have seen a marked improvement to the Centre.”

Aquatic members and swimming lesson members will have access to South Gippsland SPLASH in Leongatha for the time of closure.

The pool will be re-opened on Sunday, 23 August.
