Weathering It Together

Being prepared for extreme weather events is the focus of Bass Coast Shire Council’s upcoming Future Homes Program workshop.

The Weathering It Together – Handling Climate Extremes workshop will give you the chance to take a positive step and learn how to create your own ‘Emergency REDiPlan’ with help from the Red Cross.

This session will enable your household to take time, think about and plan for emergencies so you can be prepared and cope better if an emergency does occour.

Council’s Land and Catchment Officer, Diana Whittington, will set the scene for the day and discuss the many different initatives that Council has implemented or are involved in to help reduce possbile climate change impacts.

Attendees are encouraged to bring along old and new photos of the changing landscapes in their areas, such as foreshore erosion, providing a basis to discuss the impact of climate change on Bass Coast’s landscapes.

Ecologist, Kate Bennetts, will then discuss the many things that we can do in our gardens to reduce the risk of wildfires, and an afternoon self-drive visit to a local property with plans in place to reduce the effects of weather extremes will finish off the workshop.

Weathering It Together – Handling Climate Extremes will be held on Wednesday, 24 September from 10.00am until 3.00pm until 3.00pm at the Grantville Transaction Centre and is free to all Bass Coast residents.

The remaining workshops in this program will include expert speakers, products, techniques and tours of sustainable sites to show real world examples of exceptional homes, gardens, farms and communities.

Information provided will help you to save money by using energy and water efficiently, reduce waste and live sustainably.Remaining workshops in the series this year include:
