Woni Proud project – calling for people!

Bass Coast Shire Council is calling for community members to participate in a project that will improve public places around Wonthaggi’s town centre.

The Wonthaggi Activity Centre project, Woni Proud, has been funded by Council and the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) to recognise and reinforce Wonthaggi’s status as the Regional Centre of Bass Coast.

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Pamela Rothfield explains the Woni Proud project is an excellent opportunity for community members to identify, plan and implement projects that will improve Wonthaggi’s tourism and investment future.

“The first stage of the Wonthaggi Activity Centre project will engage business, young people and other community members to identify projects that enhance the way our town looks and feels,” she said.

Community members are invited to come along to place making workshops to share ideas, plan and develop projects that will improve the town.

Wonthaggi Business and Tourism Association member, Dee Connell, is already involved in Woni Proud and looking forward to activating projects in the town centre.

“This is an opportunity for business to work closely with Council to help shape projects that will increase visitation and investment in the town,” she said.

“We have some projects we’re working on already and we’re looking forward to further developing and implementing them as part of the Woni Proud project” explained Dee.

The first community workshop will be held on Thursday 15 March, 5.30pm to 8.30pm, at the Old Wonthaggi Post Office, 74 McBride Ave Wonthaggi. A light supper will be served. Please RSVP by Tuesday 13 March to strategicplanningadmin@basscoast.vic.gov.au.

If you’re unable to attend a workshop but still want to be involved, please contact Council’s Strategic Planning Team on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) or 03 5671 2211.
