Wonthaggi Cemetery - Drainage Improvement Works Stage 2

Works have begun on stage two of drainage improvement at the Wonthaggi Cemetery.

Bass Coast Shire Council has appointed Carriford Earthmoving under an Annual Supply Contract to carry out construction works relating to the drainage strategy identified in the Wonthaggi Cemetery Masterplan 2015.

Further to initial works carried out in 2015/16, Stage 2 drainage improvement works will contribute to the future development of the Wonthaggi Cemetery site, and will continue to address the main drainage outfall requirements for future development of the cemetery.

Stage 2 drainage improvement works will involve:

  • tree removal along the western boundary of the cemetery closest to the entrance road to Wonthaggi Transfer Station for drainage works

  • additional underground drainage infrastructure and open swale drains

  • increase capacity of wetland/retarding basin system on the western site outfall and modifications to drainage outfall structures within the wetland.

Works are anticipated to be finished by late June 2018, weather permitting.

This project is funded by a Department of Health and Human Services grant in the order of $160,000

It is anticipated that there will be minimal disruption to services and visitors during this time.
