Wonthaggi’s future on display
Bass Coast Shire Council is inviting community members to take a glimpse into the future by learning more about the future growth and development of Wonthaggi.
The emerging Precinct Structure Plan for Wonthaggi North East will guide the future development of the town for the next 30 years, including identifying the future locations of roads, community hubs, schools, parks, housing, employment opportunities and transport connections.
A Development Contributions Plan is also being developed, which will identify costs of development and ensure they are provided equitably across the precinct.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Pamela Rothfield, said Council is now seeking input and thoughts from the community during a week-long consultation event.
“We’d love to hear what the local community think about these plans for our future growth, and will be asking for input into the Precinct Structure Plan in particular,” Cr Rothfield said.
“There will also be opportunities to speak with Council and Victorian Planning Authority staff, and find out more up-to-date information on the project, and how work around key infrastructure issues such as road, drainage and land to generate employment is progressing.”
Consultation will be taking place at the Wonthaggi Library in Murray Street, Wonthaggi from Monday, 15 May to Friday, 19 May from 10.00am until 6.00pm, and on Saturday, 20 May from 9.30am to 1.00pm.
An opportunity to speak with staff from both Council and the Victorian Planning Authority will also be held at a drop-in event at the Old Library in Watt Street, Wonthaggi, on Tuesday, 16 May from 6.00pm to 8.00pm.
For our younger community members, a colouring competition will also be held, with all entrants going into the draw for a chance to win a prize.
