Young Voices To 'Be Heard!'

Are you a young person in Bass Coast that wants to ‘Be Heard’? Now’s your opportunity.

Young people in Bass Coast will have the opportunity to speak up and take part in arts and cultural activities at an upcoming event in Wonthaggi run by youth, for youth.

Bass Coast Shire Council’s youth advocacy group, Future Leaders Influencing our Community (FLIC) are hosting the event ‘No Talent Required’ as part of National Youth Week on Saturday, 12 April.

The event will be held in Wishart Reserve, McBride Avenue, Wonthaggi, from 10.00am until 4.00pm.

“The whole idea of this event is to be inclusive, hence the title ‘No Talent Required’,” FLIC member, Jess Paulson, said.

‘No Talent Required’ is being funded by a Victorian Government National Youth Week Grant, and is part of the Local Government Youth Inclusion Grants Program to support rural and regional young people participating in decision making in their community.

FLIC have been recruiting local young people to help organise and perform at the event, while local radio station, 3MFM, is partnering with the YMCA to offer workshops on radio and music recording and promotion.

3MFM has received a ‘Be Heard!’ grant, which aims to encourage young people's participation in community radio and to develop skills and career pathways in radio broadcasting.

A FReeZA event will also be held on 21 March at the YMCA Wonthaggi from 8.00pm until 10.00pm, featuring bands and musicians including Bridgewater, I am Duckeye and Melissa Ramsay.

FReeZA, funded by the Victorian Government Office for Youth and run in the Bass Coast by YMCA, provides young people with access to affordable music and cultural events.

Young people are wanted to join the FReeZA committee to plan and deliver events.
